American Securities LLC

Profile

American Securities is a New York private-equity firm. It traces its roots to a family office founded in 1947 and was relaunched as an outside-investor private-equity firm in 1994. It is headquartered at 590 Madison Avenue, New York, and manages approximately $23 billion. Its healthcare holdings have included SimonMed Imaging, a minority stake in Aspen Dental, North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), and, formerly, Air Methods.

Documented pattern

American Securities acquired SimonMed Imaging in 2021. The deal was reported in trade press at about $600 million; the companies did not officially disclose financial terms. The same firm led a 2015 recapitalization of Aspen Dental Management and remains a minority (about 20%) investor after Ares Management and Leonard Green & Partners increased their ownership to a majority in 2017.

Aspen Dental has since resolved multiple state Attorney General actions — in California (2026), Massachusetts (2023 and 2014), and New York (2015) — over billing, advertising, and the corporate practice of dentistry. Those actions are the documented basis for comparing the two companies’ practices; each appears with its source on the Aspen Dental profile.
